I recently made the jump from Accenture to Hex, where I work as an SDR. I traded the predictability of consulting for something with a lot more ownership — the kind that comes bundled with quotas, metrics, and, if I'm honest, a bit of anxiety. I wouldn't trade it back. I like knowing exactly where I stand, and having a straight line between the work I put in and what comes out of it.
I was born in São Paulo, Brazil, and grew up moving through Nagoya and Tokyo, Japan; Rye, New York; Miami, Florida; and Ithaca, New York, for college. I now live in Hell's Kitchen in New York City. Along the way, I also spent a semester studying abroad with a host family in Barcelona, and a summer interning in San Francisco.
Growing up across so many places has made it hard to see the world as anything other than one big, interconnected place. It's probably why travel still feels less like a hobby and more like a default setting. I've been to every continent except Australia and Antarctica, and I'm in no hurry to stop.
I fell back into reading a few years ago through the classics, and it stuck. The Count of Monte Cristo is still the best book I've ever read. Right now I'm working through Barack Obama's A Promised Land. Mostly I gravitate toward history, geopolitics, and biography; I like using history as a frame for whatever's happening in the world, a reminder that we're one small, unfinished piece of a much longer story. Given the choice, I'd rather do all that reading in a cafe with an iced latte (light ice, macadamia milk) and a slice of banana bread than anywhere else.
Coldplay is my favorite band, hands down, and Clocks is my favorite song of all time. I also love going to DJ sets and EDM festivals, which I realize is a slightly different energy than reading Obama's memoirs, but I contain multitudes.
Outside of work I'm training for two marathons this year, plus an Olympic triathlon and a half Ironman. I've also recently picked up skateboarding, mostly because I'm always looking for something new to be bad at before I get good at it. I studied information science at Cornell, but if you ask me, I'm a humanities person at heart. People and history are what hold my attention, far more than the numbers ever did.
